5 presale tickets remain for Georges Creek collaboration

CUMBERLAND, MD. - Five tickets remain at the introductory discount rate for our Experience Georges Creek photo trips. After announcing this unique collaboration between the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad (WMSR) and Gunnoe Media Group on January 30th, we have fielded more than four dozen emails and registered nearly two dozen photographers in this evolving series of upcoming photography charters that aim to provide photographers a glimpse into the rehabilitation of Western Maryland’s Georges Creek Division.

Since announcing the upcoming trips, the WMSR has made significant strides on brush cutting, highway grade crossing inspections, and other initiatives as the WMSR work crews takes advantage of the winter season to clear vegetation and conduct inspections.

Gunnoe Media Group (GMG) and the WMSR will continue working closely together through this fundraising effort in which the proceeds generated by ticket sales will be forwarded to the WMSR to directly help offset track repair costs. In exchange for photographers pledging their support, registered patrons will be provided unique access to document the rail line’s rebuilding on select dates organized by WMSR, will be invited to join the railroad for a special outing in which photographers will document some of the first photos of a passenger train on Georges Creek, and participation in the first-ever organized photo freight event on Georges Creek. GMG will organize the various events in close coordination with WMSR.

Earlier this year, the WMSR signed a lease with Georges Creek owners Eighteen Thirty Group, LLC to acquire and operate the dormant railroad line and its two EMD GP9s in southwestern Allegany County. The freight and switching railroad ceased operation in 2019 when the Verso paper mill in Luke, MD closed. As part of the acquisition, the WMSR will rehabilitate the right-of-way with plans to pursue passenger and potential freight opportunities. It is being branded as WMSR’s Georges Creek Division.

Tickets are available for purchase HERE. The link will automatically expire when the (5) remaining tickets are sold. A new round of tickets will be available at the non-introductory rate of $395.00 per person once these tickets are sold.
